Montreal and back

Yesterday we, MJ, Ronald and I set off to the Victoria briged on bicycle. It was yet another nice day to ride. We went over the Vicoria pedestrian walk an a short trip on the Gilles Villeneuve race track to the Concorde brigde to Montreal.
FYI, I can't take credit for these pics. Rondald took them since I went basic and brought money and water.

We're taking a break as we arrive at the canal. Lots of people around to pass and be passed by.
We went over to the Atwater market. We went in for some fruit but they were giving away Mediteranean Yogurt. It was really good. The very high fat content made it creamy like ice ceam. They handed it out with fresh raspberries. MmmmMmmmm...
We got back on the path beside the canal for a while and it took us to Verdun and Nuns' Island. Fun part. lots of things to look at. We stoped and checked out a Cricket match. ( not sure of the spelling ).
We went over the Ice Bridge. Great place to ride if it's not to windy. New perspective on the city. We rode back home for some Iced tea and some Ritz chips. Very tasty if you like salty.
I loved that ride. I'll try and take Eric soon. Maybe my bike shorts I ordered will show up this summer.

a blog of my blogs.

I've been meaning to post these. I read both of these blogs on a semi regular basis.
  • the delicious life

  • This one is basically food oriented. Makes me drool and wish I was so varied in my tastes and cuisine.
  • my life through glass
  • This one is postings of pictures some guy takes on a daily basis. Mostly from Oakville.

    Hope you enjoy these also.

see this guy! he's ridding with his dog in the side car. I'm not sure who's haveing a better time.

Kayakers haveing fun in the rappids. Over and over. Looks like lots of work but fun and refreshing.

Last bridge with the the radio call signs. Never noticed that before on a bridge but I'm sure it's quite common.

Heidi and her cool bike that she loves. She must be checking out her new found whistle in her back clip.

Cleanning my glasses after lunch. I'm much happier than I look.

    Chambly Canal.

I'd been looking forward to cycling the Chambly Canal since about Wednesday when we heard the forecast.
I think it was Thursday I saw Heidi online we chatted about our plans and she seemed psyched about our plans for the canal so I invited her for 9am Sat at our place.
We were a little late getting ready and she was early. I like early people. She has a beautiful mountain bike that goes small and we have new roof racks so we were able to go in one car. (still not ready to bike there too)
The weather was 27C with a nice breeze. Couldn't ask for better. The way there it wasn't too busy, very scenic and with the wind in our backs. We stopped for a pic-nic and rode back. That's when we noticed the breeze!!! Much harder work on the way back.
We saw all sorts of people. Roller bladder with a face full of zinc, family's out for a stroll, heavy duty riders and people pulling there dogs in trailers or sidecars.
We all had fun. I loved the fact that even if they were far ahead, they wouldn't be leaving the path so I could always find them.

    Biggest Ride yet.

We've been riding our bikes for a week now and we set off for a trip to my home town. It took about an hour and 17 km. Not bad I thought. The new sunglass were really nice to wear. We bought me a pair of bike gloves at St-Jean's. They make things more comfortable and less sticky.
We took the backway behind Club Price and through the airport. I wouldn't want to do that on a windy day. It was a nice temperature there but on the way back it hit 30C. I drank and drank.
I think we're all decked out for now but I'm going to try and hunt down my rain poncho. Today it's rainning and we put the biking on hold.

I'm cutting this short 'cause Eric's calling to go to Canadian Tire.

I bought glasses to look dorky with Eric. Very comfortable and they have changable lenses. 8 different lense colours I think. Compared to Eric's these ones are disposable MEC brand eventhough I bought them a fancy case.

    And they're off !

We found on our ride Wednesday night we were missing a few Cycle musts so Eric picked me up after work and we went to the "MEC"A. We went a little crazy. We went there for lights and on the way there the list kept getting longer. Amazing how that happens. We did buy a headlight each and I got a rear flashing light(Eric already had one). We also got sunglass cases, a bell, sunglases for me with additional yellow lense. It was all so exciting. Oh and Eric bought some bike shorts. He'll see how they work. I'm very jeleous but I'll just have to waite untill I break down and buy some on the net or loose the many pounds it would take to get into their womens shorts. This is the one time I'm not going for men's stuff.
We plan to ride this week-end. Not quite sure where or when but Tim and Christine have invited us so we'll do something with them on Sunday. I hope they don't mind going at a snails pace. lol.

    Weee!!!!

We finally got it all together and got on our bikes. Eric bought a new one so his was easy. Many adjustments of the seat and taking the accessories from the old bike and putting them on the new one. Right down to an embarrassing story where he spent 20 min trying to take his peddle off the wrong direction. Oooops.
A little more complicated for me. We decided that my bike was worth fixing up. We took it for a tune up. They fixed the wheels, adjusted the brakes and changed the derailer cable. Hmmmm... When I got it home I couldn't shift into Low gear. Not good. We took it to the place near us and they cleaned out my gear shifter and it works great.
Yesterday we went for a short ride over to the Colby's and then a short stop at the bank. I motivate Eric to take a more direct route with a bribe to Dairy Queen. That was a very popular spot.
Today was a little more ambitious. We went up over Tascherault and checked out the contruction. Rough hill... especially when your chain get stuck. We cycled over to the Costco on the very nice bike path parallel/between to Tascherault and the 132. Going home wasn't as fun. It was dusk and we took the path along the water back. It was a little nerve racking. This was all and all a very enjoyable trip. We went 17.5km. We know that thanks to the Odometers set up on our bikes. I got up to 30km/hour on flat but not for very long.
We plan to do a few more km on our bikes this weekend.
